Tucked behind Meeting Street is one of the old fire watch towers. Until 1976 there was a fire house in the location where the fire tower still exists–it was decommissioned when the fire house was moved further down the road.
“The fire tower on Queen and Meeting Street (116 Meeting St) in Charleston remains standing as a preserved historic structure, now part of a municipal building formerly used by the fire department. It was built in the early 20th century, specifically around 1900, as part of a centralized fire station complex, serving both as a lookout and a fire alarm station.”
