Part of Julyan’s series depicting what he imagines the life of Napoleon’s exiles would have been like. Failing to create the vine and olive colony in what is now Demopolis, Alabama, many of the exiles returned to France while some went into Louisiana and on into South America. The woman depicted here is Madame Raol, one of the only colonists who we have any significant information about. This is the artists fantasy of what her life became.
