West painted Augustine’s in 1990, not long after Hugo made its way through Charleston, S.C. It was one of the first plein air paintings and became the centerpiece for an SCTV film about West and his work. The painting has come back on the market and we are pleased to offer this piece for sale. It is documented in Ted Phillip’s essay in the USC Press publication Charleston In My Time published in 2001.
