Susan Lynn hails from the Midwest, but in 2018 she moved to Rockport, Massachusetts, for love. Love of both the beauty of Cape Ann and fellow Rockport artist John Caggiano.

Callian in the Distance by Susan Lynn

Her work has been described by many as poetic, lyrical, luminous, and serene–I believe you will agree. Working in both watercolor and oil, Susan is highly accomplished in both mediums. Primarily a landscape painter, Susan is moved by the evening light hitting a stand of grasses, the movement of water, shadows crossing a winding road, but most of all by the mysteries of light and atmosphere.
A native Kansan, she earned her BFA from Kansas State University beginning her artistic career as an architectural illustrator. It was, as it turned out, a fantastic training ground for a realist landscape painter, honing her understanding of perspective, light, and color. Once she shifted entirely to fine art, she saw her work featured in several national publications including Plein Air Magazine, Fine Art Connoisseur, and International Artist Magazine. Active in today’s plein air movement she regularly participates in some of the nation’s top juried and invitational plein air competitions. Most recently she and John spent a week in Florida at the 19th annual Wekiva Paint Out and will participate in Easton Plein Air in July.
Susan believes that painting the landscape en plein air affords her a keener awareness of the unique qualities of light that give one a sense of place and strengthens her connection to the natural world.
This passion fuels her other passion, travel. From annual painting trips to Maine, South Carolina and Vermont along with visits to Europe, she takes inspiration from the world around her as well as treasured artist friends who inspire and push her to be better.
Lynn has earned signature membership status in the American Society of Marine Artists, American Women Artists, national Watercolor Society, Outdoor Painters Society, and is an elected Artist member of the historic Salmagundi Club. Her
extensive list of awards include the Elta Joyce Murphey Grand Prize at En Plein Air Texas, the Michael Willing Memorial Award from the National Watercolor Society, and the American Women Artists’s Award for Distinguished Achievement in Landscape Painting.

We are privileged to have this accomplished artist as our guest for Burst of Colors: An Artists Odyssey in Provence.
