The lighthouse at Marshall Point in Port Clyde, Maine is an iconic feature of the St. George peninsula. It is maintained as a private residence that can be rented out annually, with the tenants taking care of it while living at the edge of the ocean. This is the lighthouse that Forrest Gump ran to in the movie, and often while painting there, we see people joyfully replicate that run! It must be one of the most visited sites in Maine, and it has been immortalized in paintings by the Nanatuck Group. Covid caused me to cancel the annual retreat for 2020, but I am hoping to carefully restart the summer colony in August of 2021.
