During the research for West Fraser’s book Painting the Southern Coast he spent many an afternoon getting to know the women and men that make things happen in one of the Lowcountry’s only operating oyster houses, the Bluffton Oyster Company located in historic Bluffton, S.C. The painting Bluffton Oyster Factory Shuckers is the culmination of those visits. In honor of the men and women who work in this business and in an effort to insure its continued success, Mr. Fraser established a fund with the Community Foundation of the Lowcountry in the name of his parents Joseph and Becky Fraser.
