Helena Fox Fine Art proudly presents a special exhibit of realist oil paintings titled In a New York Minute by artist Seth Tane as his first solo exhibition at the gallery. The exhibition will be on view Friday, November 3 – Friday, November 10, 2017 with an opening reception on November 3, 5-8pm. The artist will be in attendance, refreshments will be provided and it is free and open to the public.
Originally from the New York City area but now based in Portland, Oregon, Seth Tane has an interesting Charleston history too. He will be available throughout the exhibition to answer questions about his inspirations, methods, and materials. He uses a pole mounted camera and software to get a unique vantage point for his most current series of paintings. 15 Seconds is featured in the front window of the gallery during the exhibit.
Tane’s paintings are dramatically detailed scenes of New York City, unique views of the subway, colorful abandoned railroad tracks and trains, urban landscapes and portraits of huge ships and industrial equipment. These highly realistic paintings are a celebration of his experiences from coast to coast.
Tane professes, “I first sailed into Charleston harbor after a very rough offshore passage from New York on my re-purposed oil tanker turned salvage ship almost thirty years ago. Then I spent five very interesting years living ashore and working in, on and under the waters of the Low Country, riding out hurricane Hugo in the Cooper River and eventually moving on to the Pacific Northwest. During my time in Charleston, and while running multiple businesses and raising two sons, I have always been first and foremost an artist, absorbing, reflecting and processing all I’ve seen and done and using my best efforts to create well-crafted objects to celebrate and preserve those experiences. Please come visit this special exhibit of my recent paintings and enjoy a detailed view of where I’ve been.”
